  • Happy Birthday to Margaret Sanborn, founder of the Pacific American Academy Charter School in San Diego, Britt Noelani, NPIEN Staff Emeritus, Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, mayor of Burnsville, Minnesota, Mio Tuala, SoCal Pacific Islander Community Response Team, the late Victor Kaiwi Pang, founder of the Pacific Islander Health Partnership, Long Beach City College Board Member Vivian Malauulu,  Anne Brache, Aloha Ukulele Ensemble Musician and expert Hula dancer, Sina Tuitama, Teacher, Hueneme High School. David Brown, LA Island Radio, Tini Grey, NPIEN Supporter, Keynote and Musical Artist.   • Staff Member Loriann Leota has been working with the Organization for Chinese Americans, New York (OCA) and the US Department of Education in furthering relationships with AANHPI organizations.
  • Loriann Leota represented NPIEN at the White House Initiative AANHPI meeting and Lupe Moe attended the Tobacco Cessation Task Force. 
  •  BOARD RETREAT at the Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum in Long Beach, CA from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. We had 7 in-person (5 Board and 2 Staff), 8 virtual (6 Board, 2 Staff) in attendance.  We enjoyed continental breakfast, a lunch from Ohana Hawaiian BBQ or Door Dash for virtual attendees, goal planning as Board Committees, and a tour of the museum.  At 1:00 p.m. was a special Talk Story program with Estella Owoimaha-Church, Executive Director of EPIC and colleague Kiki Rivera, Story Teller, and Ultramathoner Dillon Quitugua from Eva Beach, Hawaii and Dr. Thompson. 
  • Thanks to our NPIEN Members who served at the following places during the holidays:  Redlands Sober Living Home, Soroptimist Village Seniors, Weingart Senior Center, Lakewood, Project Shepherd Holiday Food Bank in Lakewood, Broken Loaf Food Pantry, Lakewood, Our Savior’s Center Food Bank, El Monte and the Dr. Martin Luther King Day-of-Service!  We enjoyed a gathering at MLK Park in Long Beach, CA and heard from NPIEN Supporters Long Beach City Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro,  and Mayor Rex Richardson.  We then went to Cal State Long Beach to work at the Student Center assembling Backpacks for Foster Youth new to CSULB.
  •  Ohana Night:  On Thursday February 2nd at the Ohana Hawaiian BBQ We had a full-house with 20 guests and the Hula Dancers danced! 
  •  Ultramathoner Dillon Quitugua appeared on the School Talk Story program with Dr. T.

  • Open to all majors
